FALL 2016 9 West Virginia Banker How I got into the banking business: After graduation from college I accepted a position at a bank. The one person who had the greatest influence on my career: There were actually two people - my father, who was a career banker and my mother, who said any profession I enter is going to be a “people business” and that it’s about the team and not about me. She also taught me that one of man’s biggest attributes is the ability to listen. The best advice I received during my banking career: Book quality assets, and your first loss is your best loss. Advice you would give emerging leaders in the banking indus- try: I would give the same advice I received, and also encourage to them to learn as many leadership skills as possible. What are you looking forward to most as WVBA Chairman? Working with and learning from some of the most capable and intelligent people on the staff and board of the West Virginia Bankers Association, as well as meeting as many state bankers in their offices as possible. What do you see as your biggest challenge this year? As an asso- ciation, the biggest challenge is assuring member banks their dues to the association are an investment and not an expense. How long have you been active with the WVBA? 30 years. Something else I would like to accomplish: Expand on an already successful education program with the WVBA, and a higher penetration on products and services. Something about me that would surprise fellow bankers: I’m a grill-a-holic, owning 6 grills and smokers. I grill year round 4-5 times a week. What is one piece of advice you would give someone entering the banking industry today? Learn verbal and written commu- nication skills and get as much leadership education as you can. Also, don’t be afraid to ask questions. n Meet Your Chairman Randy Snider President and CEO, Community Bank of Parkersburg Plus special Frontier savings on OnHub: a better, faster router from Google. • Our fastest Internet speed available to your business • Our lowest package price for small businesses • Unlimited nationwide calling, voice mail and advanced calling features included • Free FrontierWi-Fi router to let you network multiple devices with qualifying services and two-year agreement. 49 99 per month for 12 months Business High-Speed Internet & Phone Must subscribe to a qualifying package of Business phone service and new High-Speed Internet with two-year agreement.HSI for business will be provisioned at our fastest speed available at your location of up to 3Mbps,6-7Mbps,12-15Mbps, 18-20Mbps,24-30Mbps or 40-45Mbps download based on line requirements.
