www.wvbankers.org 18 O ne way to invest a small amount of dollars to educate your rising stars in an economical, professional and efficient way, is to send these employees to the West Virginia School of Banking. I promise this school will provide you with more productive and knowledge- able employees, eager to put to use their new-found skills. The next session of the West Virginia School of Banking is May 22-27, 2011, at the University of Charleston. Its purpose is to provide bank personnel at the supervisory and officer level the opportunity to increase their knowl- edge about the banking industry and the economy. This year will mark the 64th year of investing in banking education. Conducted on a two-year cycle basis, with week long annual ses- sions, this school is taken in sequence. It is presumed that once students are enrolled in the first-year course, they will continue through the second year. The Bank Exec program in the sec- ond year allows the student to make important bank pricing decisions and see its effect on the bottom line. Par- ticipants taking both years will receive a good understanding of the banking industry and, upon receiving a passing mark, will be awarded a diploma at the graduation ceremony. At the request of many graduates, we developed the Lloyd P. Calvert Gradu- ate School of Banking in 2001. After completion of the two-year program, bankers wanted more! The graduate school takes the Bank Exec program to a higher level and additional manage- ment classes have been added. The WV School of Banking could not operate without the dedicated industry professionals that make up the Board of Trustees, the Instructors and the Fellows. These bankers contribute their talent, skill, knowledge, expertise and time to ensure this school is pertinent, timely and gives the attending students the tools they need to become assets to their institutions. Dr. Ed Seifried continues to be the Dean of our School and is one of its greatest assets. Applications are available on our web- site: www.wvbankers.org or contact us at 800-343-8038. Remember—The West Virginia School of Banking—A Sound Investment! Q We all realize how valuable a talented, well-trained employee can be in the banking industry. Just ask any banker and they’ll tell you that’s what sets them apart from their competitor. West Virginia School of Banking: A Sound Investment By Donna Atkinson, Director of Education
